"Die Arche - not forgetting anyone"

By Samuel Kuttler | Head of Donation Administration

Our kids riding the sweeping farm tractor!

"You won't forget a single child or youth. And not even the parents - you are always there." A wonderful sentence by a mother whose children visit our facility in Munich.

We're full of joy when parents recognize what we're getting up - and during the last year we got up quite a lot! After ten years in a temporary building we finally moved into a beautiful new location right next to our old place - a quantum leap forward: Our children now have the possibility of retreating or doing homework untroubledly and the general noise level has become accurate. No wonder that our children fight remarkably less!

Just while we were approaching our facility on our summer camp return, we saw some people standing on the pavement and already expecting the arrival of their loved ones. A 17-year old girl came to meet her brother: A few moments after she welcomed him, the girl said to one of our pedagogues: "My brother never was as happy as on your camp."

Of course, this might be said in an emotional moment. It however indicates that our camps are the children's highlights during their time with us - especially when going on holidays is something they don't know from home. For example, we were able to take 36 children on our summer camp at a farm in Upper Bavaria. There was huge fun waiting for our kids: Outdoor games like a puzzlehunt with their best friends, pony or tractor riding or just a classic campfire. Moments of fun are for our children particularly moments of easiness, too.

2016 was a year shaped by a heated debate about how to deal with the enhanced figures of refugees in Germany. As an organization taking Christian values to heart, we feel responsible to be there for anyone who is coming to us. Thus, refugee work meant an important part in the last year and may become even more important in the upcoming years, especially when an early elation could probably dissipate. Above all, we assist a growing number of refugee children in learning German - some of them are now already a part of regular classes at school.

Perhaps, this is the most significant challenge right now: To focus on new issues without leaving anyone out in the rain at the same time. Therefore, we want to give our heartfelt thanks to all of you who supported us! It would be a pleasure for us if children in need will also be close to your heart in the future.

Warm regards

Samuel
