Everyday life's significance

By Samuel Kuttler | Head of Donation Administration

Two ARCHE-Children with their mother
Two ARCHE-Children with their mother

“DIE ARCHE is my family.” Children in our houses say this not uncommonly. A special statement! We want to share our thoughts about it and about visions and limits of our work with you.

A new report often offers joyful anecdotes about exceptional moments – just look at our previous news. Of course, we also had some of these highlights recently. But we recognize this time of year eminently as a time of reliability for our kids. It is when the new school year truly started, first tests and exams are due and big questions of friendships or roles in their school classes cross our children’s minds.

Our vision is to make every child coming to us sure of our support for them: We go through exercises, try to find solutions together and encourage the kids to be prepared for upcoming school tasks. School support is not simply about improving in one or another subject. It is generally about approaching education positively: Lots of our children founder on crowded school classes in which they feel left behind and chanceless whilst comparing their knowledge with the rest. Every day, we give everything for a little smile when our kids open the huge school door.

Certainly, our children’s future is not the only thing on our mind. When they enter our house at noon, our kids have a lot to tell: New friends, old disputes, other pupils or teachers who were kind or mean – they open their hearts to us. Our answer is always to have a sympathetic ear for them. The children’s trust in us; the way they entrust us with their thoughts and feelings makes us glad. It is simply our work’s fundament.

Nevertheless, this bond of trust embraces danger: Quite often, we recognize children sharing their thoughts with us in a way that makes us anxious: We see that we are the only ones listening to them. No matter how important we wish to be for our children: Every man, every child needs the love of family. And our work can never replace this. Therefore, we also insistently try to bolster our children’s families. A few days ago, we arranged a long and social family evening.

After all, we mention a real highlight in this report: We experienced outstanding moments when children and their family members found evermore common ground together. Never let it be said that autumn time is just ordinary! Evenings like this show another aspect of DIE ARCHE’s self-understanding: Building bridges in our children’s life. We believe in the significance of every day. By the way: We offer parents a common breakfast with our pedagogues routinely for listening to their thoughts as well.

Dear supporters, our heartfelt thanks for enabling DIE ARCHE to support children like this. It would be a pleasure for us if children in need will also be close to your heart in the future.

Warm regards,

Samuel
