To you, our valued Global Giving supporters:
The Planetary Society established this Global Giving fund for the detection of potentially dangerous asteroids & comets early in 2015. We set a goal of raising $5,000.00 to put toward planetary defense and specifically to our Gene Shoemaker Near Earth Object grants, which are awarded to amateur observers in developing countries and also to professional astronomers who, with seed money, can greatly increase their contributions toward NEO research.
Thanks to you, were have raised $4,394.00 of our $5,000.00 goal. Every contriubtion makes a difference. Sustaining gifts of even $10.00 a month from our Near-Earth Observer level donors have gotten us this far, and if you choose to make a year-end gift, we will know we can achieve our goal.
The Planetary Society awards the Shoemaker grants every other year. In 2015 we were able to support 19 winners with donations totaling $53,250.00. Come along with us for 2017!
