The GreaterGood group continues to develop the sector for social change by facilitating the full spectrum of giving and social investment in South Africa and beyond.
There are currently 102 active projects on SASIX. So far, we have raised a total of R3 832 200 for these projects.
One of these active projects that was listed on GlobalGiving, Building Healthy Communities, is now fully funded and implementation began in September. So far, 126 people have already benefited from basic health and nutrition workshops. Strategic planning meetings and consultations with former beneficiaries have also been held to establish specific health and nutrition education needs for the 2011 intake. Workshops will resume early in 2011, once the targeted organisations have reconvened after their Christmas break. Find out more on their website
A number of SASIX-funded projects have recently been completed. In one project, Biblionef provided 10 crèches in impoverished areas each with 80 storybooks as well as a variety of educational toys. Beatrice Mathidi, who runs one of the crèches, was delighted. “We have never received a donation before” she said “this is the first time that we have seen new books and toys!” For more details go to their profile.
Another project by help2read has coordinated volunteers who have thus far helped 82 school children to develop their reading skills in the impoverished townships outside of Cape Town. And another project saw a home for the disabled change to solar water heating, saving them money on their electricity bill and reducing their reliance on fossil fuels. Read participants’ quotes in their profile.
It has been a successful year for SASIX. And with so many good projects still on our platform, we look forward to seeing even more successful projects in 2011.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
