GreaterGood South Africa continues to develop the social sector in South Africa, working with over a thousand causes and over nine thousand registered givers.
Gifts4Good
Over the Holiday Season, one of our major focuses is our Gifts4Good campaign. Gifts4Good is an on online store with a difference. On Gifts4Good, you can give something that really matters to communities in need across South Africa.
This is how it works:
All the projects that benefit are thoroughly assessed, monitored and evaluated so givers can be sure that their gift will make a meaningful and lasting difference.
This year, some of the gifts available include horse feed, which is given to an organisation that does therapeutic horse riding for disabled children; books for a pre-school in one of the most remote corners of the country; and hearing aids for underprivileged children with hearing impairments.
The campaign received considerable media attention. It was taken on as a pro bono project by a major advertising agency who produced a series of television and radio advertisements, and was the subject of a number of newspaper and magazine articles.
In total the campaign managed to raise about R220,000 (around $32,000) for the various projects it supported.
SASIX
We continue to list new projects on the South African Social Investment Exchange (SASIX) which have the potential to have an enormous social impact. These include a project to bolster rural healthcare by training pharmacist assistants; a project that supports grandmothers to care for kids who have lost their parents to AIDS; and a project that supports a music academy for disadvantaged youngsters.
With the ongoing support of our generous donors we hope to make a difference in these and many more projects in 2011.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
If you donate to this project or have donated to this project, you can receive an email when this project posts a report. You can also subscribe for reports without donating.
