This project will support rural women across 8 states in India to learn a variety of vocational skills, gain financial independence, start their own enterprises, and support themselves and their families. The diverse livelihood trainings in the project will also equip women with skills and the necessary mindset to cultivate dignity and confidence in their capabilities, thereby attaining true financial independence.
Women account for over 42% of the workforce in India's informal agricultural sector. However, these women face entrenched realities like a lack of land ownership, limited access to financial services, rampant health issues, and wage discrimination. Due to a lack of diversification of the workforce, rural women in India are trapped in a cycle of gender-based poverty and lack of financial independence. This project will enable them to build key vocational skills, and gain economic independence.
This project provides a host of trainings in diverse vocational trades, such as beautician skills, sewing, candle-making, etc., along with entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and computer literacy courses, so that rural women have the flexibility and agency to pursue the paths that match their unique interests and gain financial independence. The women also intern at businesses to gain firsthand work experience, and are trained in how to set up their own micro-enterprises.
This project will enable the much-needed diversification and upskilling of the rural women workforce, thereby allowing them to rise out of the cycle of gender-based poverty in the agricultural sector, pursue diverse interests, and gain financial independence. The project's entrepreneurship, computer literacy, and financial literacy components will provide rural women with the opportunity to build sustainable livelihoods, develop technical skills, and even set up their own micro-enterprises.
