Serving patients at dental clinic
November 2014
Nairobi Kenya
Dear Friends,
We here at Dentcare Kenya are doing well. Right now, I work in the public hospital in Mwingi town and the frustrations of lack of support for the purchase of dental equipment and materials are getting a toll on me. The nearest town where patients can seek proper dental treatment is at Kitui,Garissa or Thika towns. These places are over 100km away. So, we are planning to relocate one of the dental chairs in Mairobi to Mwingi town where we'll partner with a local hospital and provide access to affordable quality dental care for the masses.
At one of our recent dental clinics, one of the people we served said this. “I wish I could find a word better than "Thank You" to really help sum up and show how loved, appreciated, and cared for I feel with Dentcare Kenya Foundation! I have never known of any dental team, or service to offer me their full attention. Dentcare Kenya Foundation! Treated me with royalty. I wish to have an opportunity to pay you back, but I know that no matter what I do, it would never measure up to a percentage of what you have done for me! I feel so blessed and so loved to have the honor of knowing Dentcare Kenya Foundation! “ At this recent clinic, we carried out over 50 dental extractions at the and had more than 30 dental referral cases to the Dentcare Kenya dental clinics.
Thank you for helping to support our efforts to provide affordable dental care to the needy in Kenya.

August 2014 Report

Nairobi Kenya,
Dear Friends,
Dental care is one of the top unmet health care needs for low-income families in Kenya. Because of your Global Giving donations, we are able to provide dental services for grateful community residents in need. Every day when we conduct dental camps we hear from our patients about the meaningful, even life-changing, impact receiving dental care has on their lives.
On June 14th 2014 at Githurai Kimbo, Dr Kamau gave an oral health talk to children from Future Gate Children’s centre. On this day we conducted dental checkups to over 150 children and their caregivers. Dental camp was sponsored by the Children centre’s management.
"Your people for the dental camp…are real personable and make you feel so comfortable. This means so much for us at Future Gate because for at least 2 years we have not seen a dentist. Our children have such bad teeth but we are confident your team of dentists will leave us with the best smiles. Thank you so much for everything." –Abby Mutua, Future Gate Centre Co-odinator
Thank you for supporting our efforts to provide affordable dental care to needy persons.
With kind regards,
Dr. David Mundia
Director, Dentcare Kenya Foundation.

Dear Friends,
First of all we want to thank all our donors on GG for their unwavering support in the realization of our objectives towards oral healthcare promotion and provision for the masses in Kenya who can’t afford the expensive cost of dental care. We pray that God blesses you as much as you give to help those in need.
In the month of February 2014 we opened up a second dental clinic at Utawala estate, Embakasi, this is to serve the middle income earners of the locality. In March 2014, we acquired another third dental unit for use at Matopeni slums, Kayole in partnership with a local hospital that serves the needy from this slum. Utawala Estate and Matopeni slums each has about 400,000 residents. The population in these areas has limited or no access to oral health care services. Both locations are about 30km apart. The source of financing for these two clinics is by a loan from a savings and credit society acquired against the assets in the first dental clinic at Mihang’o. In the 12 months to come we are hoping to have cleared the loan repayment and then we can plan for the expansion of the dental clinics network.
Mihang’o Dental Clinic is doing quite well, it’s now celebrating its 10th month since inception. We have attended to 156 clients this year. The numbers are not that high owing to the fact that at the beginning of the year most people have limited cash and numerous commitments. All the same most of our clients pay for services with cash and have no insurance covers/dental schemes.
We are extremely grateful for your support to help needy Kenyans improve their health through improved dental care.
Thank you!
Dr. David Mundia
