Have you ever wondered how a Facebook discussion would look like in real life? We tried it together with the visitors of the TEDxBratislava conference. They were given the task to fight a troll on Facebook and to comment on his status full of misconceptions and untruths, which Slovak nonprofits often face.
"Everyone steals anyway. It's even worse than during communism. An ordinary man cannot do anything to stop it or to fight corruption.
Now I've read that giving a bottle to an official is corruption too. What's so bad about it? Everyone does it. It's not a like I'm giving them money."
This ignited a lively discussion about corruption and peoples' role in fighting it. Have a look at some of the comments:
"Just because people tolerate bribes in small measure, corruption flourishes on large scale. We have to change it together step by step."
"People are less and less corrupt. We hear about it more, because it has become unusual." - Viktor
"When somebody thinks that a bribe, for example, in the form of a bottle, makes things faster and better, it's time to think about it. There should be equal measure for everyone. How can state institutions fight against corruption if we do not start with ourselves. - Adka
"Each one of us must start ourselves in the fight against corruption. When we act responsibly, we can change the system together." - Katka
There were also some jokers:
"The pool doesn't ask how you earned it" - Kamahl19
"If you want to give someone a bottle of water, it's okay. There's really nothing wrong with it."
And what was our role? We emphasised the contribution of Slovak NGOs in fighting corruption and reassured participants of their power to change the system when acting responsibly.
