„You are not my mother!“
My adopted daughter said to me. It hurt me. I didn´t know what to say. So I just asked: „I know, but who am I then?“ Then she hugged me so firmly. I knew she is very unhappy that life is like this. But still she was happy that I am her mother despite anything.
This is one of the testimonies of adoptive parents who met at our Autumn Community Meeting, which was a part of regular meetings held for adoptive and foster parents once a month. They come and speak, share their experience and pain, they build deep relationships with others who understand them, and if not, that doesn´t matter. They don´t need to understand everything, they just listen.
We organize these meetings regularly and offer our professional insight into the stories they live. What do they need? What are their joys and fears? How do they feel when their children are 3, 6, 15 years old? What challenges does their life with loved children bring? They can ask anything and we have answers and if we don´t, we meet individually and look for reasons and solutions. Thanks to individual and corporate donors we have freedom to spend as much time with families as they need.
New website full of much needed information
Since April 2019 we´ve been working on a brand new website dedicated especially to the theory of attachment which is so crucial for adoptive and foster families, but very interesting and inspiring for all parents. The relationhsips from our childhood affect all next relationships in our whole life. We can´t change past, but we can deal with it.
One of the best Slovak experts on the topic of attachment, Zuzana Z., spoke to a group of parents and we made a video series from her lectures. She is not only an expert, she is an exceptional speaker as well. She has as rare ability of telling important and difficult things in a very informal and understandable language.
Long story short, in November 2019 we introduced a brand new website where we will regularly share 28 lectures on these topic. Thanks to support of regional authorities and individual donors we can offer the lessons for free.
We offer educational seminars all the year round, but they are not available for everybody. Therefore now we are very pleased to see that so much important information is for free on our website https://vztahovavazba.navrat.sk
