It is quite rare in Slovakia to know a foster family personally. Adoption, on the other hand, is more common. However, there are thousands of children living in institutional care temporarily who need a safe family environment. There are just not enough foster families who offer this.
Foster carer Eva from northern Slovakia raises two girls in a single parent family. The video interview is a testimony of her journey several years after making the decision to be a foster parent. Eva tackles crucial topics which most foster parents have to face. One of the most difficult issues is how to deal with the indefinite period the children will belong to the family.
We invite you to watch this powerful interview with foster mother Eva: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLVemNVzrx4
The video interview is part of a project that maps the motivations for people to become foster parents. The aim of the project is to sensitize parents to the needs of these children-at-risk.
