At Spaulding, music plays a role in our approach to caring not just for the patient, but for the whole person. Your unrestricted gift helps us invest in promising therapies to do just that.
For Jack, music has been a longtime passion and career. As a personal photographer for Louis Armstrong—legendary jazz trumpeter, vocalist, and composer—Jack has captured the jazz great’s most iconic performances and intimate moments on film.
Recovering at Spaulding Cape Cod from a recent fall, Jack lit up while speaking about music and “Louie”—with whom he became close friends over the years. “The main reason I went to see my first Louis Armstrong show (as a teenager in the late 1940s) is because I thought it would be fun to sneak in! I never realized how overwhelmed I’d be by this man and his music until I stood in front of the band, just feet away. It changed my whole life.”
The life-changing power of music shows itself in many forms. In addition to recovering from his fall, Jack lives with Parkinson’s disease. Music can play a role in rehabilitation for people living with this condition. Spaulding Cape Cod care teams incorporate music into a number of wellness programs for people with Parkinson’s, including Rock Steady Boxing, a popular, upbeat exercise program. It is just one more way we strive to address the whole person—body, mind, and spirit.
Your unrestricted gift gives Spaulding the resources and flexibility to care for our patients through innovative, personalized rehabilitation and wellness programs like these. With your gift, you join us in helping Jack—and all our patients and community members—find their strength.
