The 14 graduates at Newburgh’s San Miguel Academy’s, Class of 2015, spent graduation weekend in the Adirondack High Peaks region mountain climbing and reaching the summits. Several in the class can now identify themselves as “46ers.” They qualify for membership in the organization of hikers (known simply as 46ers) who have climbed all 46 of the traditionally recognized “high peaks” of the Adirondack Mountains in New York State.
While each of the graduates went mountain climbing, not all hiked the 300 or so miles necessary to conquer the 4,000-foot peaks. But each student did defy the odds of getting through their middle school years and has been accepted to attend one of nine Catholic high schools, including John S. Burke, St. Benedict’s Prep, Trinity Pawling School, Our Lady of Lourdes, Marvelwood, Loomis Chaffee, Church Farm School, the Mount Academy, and Excelsior Academy.
Participating in the graduation was the Rev. Mark Connell, president of the school, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary in September, and Tom Crispi, chairman of the board of directors.
