Spring Update: Into the light

By Arthur Pratt | Director

Dear GlobalGiving Community,

Thank you all so much for your support of Darkness & the Light. I am thrilled to let you know that our project has been selected to receive matching funds from March 25-28, as a part of GlobalGiving's Little by Little campaign! This is a special opportunity where GlobalGiving will match small donations (up to $50 by 50%) - meaning your gift goes even further in supporting our mission.

Please give HERE

My project "Darkness & the Light" examines contemporary race issues and their intersection with Christian faith, and it is a facinating time to delve into this topic. as I write you now I am living in the US, in Maryland with temporary staus as i await my asylum hearing. My mind has often gobe back to my first trip to the US in 2016, when I was editting the SURVIVORS film with anna and Banker on Martha's Vineyard. I was absolutely glued to the TV during that campaign during the first Trump election. I was in fact shocked at the toxic state of how the US spoke about class and race. Both the press and both sides of the political aisle seemed to seek to use emotions of fear and or anger as a tool for their vote. This was not the experience of the US I expected, not the vision of democracy i had hoped for.

Now in 2025, I am no longer a spectator. I feel caught in the middle of a political debate I am trying my very best to understand. My biggest shock is that Christians on the right, who are supposed to live by what the bible teaches us, seem to be supported policy that calls for the deportation of immigrants without mercy, thought or LOVE. understand  and 1John 2:15-16 some times take the lead without considering the demand on their Faith.

In Matthew 25:31-46, Jesus describes the final judgment and the criteria for entering the kingdom of God, emphasizing that those who help the poor, hungry, thirsty, and stranger will be rewarded, while those who fail to do so will be condemned. The parable equates the treatment of the "stranger" (often translated as "alien" or "foreigner") with the treatment of Jesus himself, highlighting the importance of welcoming and helping those in need, regardless of their status or background.

Darkness & the Light Feels like the very thing I need to be focussing on right now and you're support is a blessing. Please reach out to me with any ideas you may or connections of folks I can connect with. I am always seeking to widen my community. Supporting via this weeks fundraiser would be amazing and I am also looking for donations of equipment (camera equipment, laptop etc...).

In deep gratitude,

Arthur
