Our service area, which includes 8 counties in Kentucky and 5 counties in Southern Indiana, is projected to experience a food insecurity rate of 13.7% among individuals in 2021, which includes 48,230 food insecure children. These numbers have increased over 20% since 2019 due to the damaging effects of COVID-19. With continued uncertainty around the pandemic, and the ongoing disruptions to life, the need for food assistance organizations like Dare to Care is critical to our community.
Dare to Care is committed to meeting the needs of our community by sourcing nutritious food items and distributing them through partner agencies, such as, food pantries, shelters, and kitchens. By partnering with organizations whose visions extend beyond hunger, Dare to Care helps to address the many other obstacles low-income families may face. Whether partner agencies provide emergency shelter, job-skills training, addiction recovery, or other services, these agencies can allocate more funds to these efforts because of the free food provided by our partnership.
Dare to Care helps neighbors like Vivian and her husband who often skip meals to feed their two young children. “This food really pulls us through,” Vivian says. “If we didn’t have this, we just wouldn’t make it.” Thousands of families like Vivian’s face food insecurityevery day across Kentuckiana, as they struggle with the long-term economic impact of the pandemic. Your generosity has supported our increased services and outreach to meet this increased need.
