Usually we see the number of people coming to Portland Rescue Mission for daily meal services drop significantly in the summer months. This year, however, they continue to grow... up 20% vs. previous summers, and tracking at 21% higher cumulative since the recession began in Fall 2008. Food donations are flat as grocers focus on efficiency in their inventory processes, and volunteers continue to make a huge difference in our daily food preparations and service. But the need for financial support is greater than ever, especially as we begin to fill our food pantry for the busy holiday season.
