Tharuni organised “Tharuni Swecha – Cycle to School” distribution programme for girls at Shyamala Gardens, on September 17th, 2018 in Hanamkonda respectively. The programme was solely meant for the distribution of bicycles to girls and encourage them to pursue secondary education. On this day, 105 bicycles were distributed to girls from Geesugonda and Duggondi Mandals, Warangal Rural district.
Sri Vishwanath Ravindar, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Warangal; Sri. Raghuveer, IFS, Principle Chief Conservator of Forests, Government of Telangana; Sri Ramana Rao, Retired Deputy Inspector General of Registrations participated in this meeting as distinguished guests.
Dr. Mamatha Raghuveer, Founder, Tharuni explained the need for secondary education to prevent the evils plaguing the lives of the girl child.
The Chief Guest in his message appreciated the activities of Tharuni and cited the words of Late Sri APJ Abdul Kalam, "I am not handsome but I can give my hand to someone who need help...Because beauty is required in heart not in face."
Sri Raghuveer said that Tharuni distributed 160 bicycles to the needy students in the previous years and the same trend is being continued for this year.
40 cycles each were also distributed in Nagarkurnool and Khammam on September 19th and September 29th respectively, making it a total distribution of 185 cycles in 3 districts of Telangana.
The programme was successful in striking the right chord with an audience of over 100 students and village locals to promote secondary education for the girl child and prevent child marriages.
