Cultivating Young Women Leaders in Northern CA

Youth Empowered is an educational project at Women’s Health Specialists that supports young people on their journey to liberation and self-determination. Youth from various backgrounds, genders and communities come together to learn information around sexual and reproductive health, in a non-judgmental, confidential and compassionate environment. Young people share their lived experiences navigating barriers and challenges when seeking care for their bodies.

Our youth leaders provide an overview of contraception, sexual transmitted infections, abortion care, youth rights and more through a variety of engaging icebreakers and group activities. These activities help folks be informed, bust stigma and develop deep connections with their peers. Youth learn communication skills, public speaking, problem solving and fun ways to have healthy conversations about taking control of their body.  This form of youth leadership helps develop a strong sense of self-worth, build confidence that help awaken their inner power.

Over the last few months, our youth leadership team has hosted several Youth Empowered Sessions across our clinic locations. They have been very successful. These young leaders leave feeling informed and empowered to advocate for their health and share information with their peers. Together we build a community where we honor, celebrate and support young people in their journey to liberation and self-determination.
