Gong Li is truly a lucky little girl, having received such generous support in the past, but now she has been given the opportunity of a lifetime. Through the work of The Red Thread Promise in the US and The Swallow's Nest in China, she will be coming from China to the US to stay for a year and receive medical care including surgery, a prosthetic leg and physical therapy. She has a foster family ready to travel to bring her over and take care of her in the coming year. Our current fundraising needs are as follows:
- Airfare for both Gong Li and her foster father: $3,400 - Ground transportation while in China: $200 - Lodging (prearranged, and mostly with friends in China): $250 - Medical visa fees: $200 - Prescription medicines: $1,000 - Miscellaneous: $250
The surgery and prosthesis will allow Gong Li to do something she never has before---walk unaided. For the majority of her life she has crawled on the floor or walked with the help of a loved one, stool or now a walker. With the increased mobility, she'll be better able to complete the tasks of everyday living on her own as well run and play just as other girls do!
