Hurricane Dorian: Seven Year Remembrance
Abaco Strong joined residents across Abaco in commemorating the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Dorian. The remembrance ceremony included the laying of wreaths (provided by Abaco Strong) at the the memorial gravesites honoring those who lost their lives, followed by a church service of thanksgiving for the community's recovery and progress since the storm.
The gathering provided an opportunity to honor those lost, reflect on the rebuilding efforts, and recognize how far the community has come since 2019.
Safe Drinking Water for Schools
Abaco Strong completed essential maintenance and upgrades to the water system at Every Child Counts (ECC), a school serving students with special needs. Work included cleaning the water filtration system, gutters and holding tank, as well as upgrading the water filters to support water quality and system performance.
A water bottle refill dispenser with built-in reverse osmosis (RO) filtration was installed at Great Guana Cay Primary School; providing students and staff with convenient access to filtered drinking water and encouraging the use of refillable bottles.
These projects are a part of our broader initiative to improve access to safe drinking water in schools throughout Abaco. Additional schools will receive water systems and dispensing solutions in the coming months.
Abaco Legacy Medical Campaign Planning for 2027
Plans are underway for the 2027 medical campaigns, continuing efforts to expand access to health screenings and cataract removal surgeries.
Four screening dates are currently planned for 2027-two more than in previous years. This expansion will create additional opportunities to identify residents in need of treatment and connect them with essential eye care services.
Preparations are ongoing to coordinate screening locations, medical teams, and logistics for the upcoming campaign.
Looking Ahead
In the coming months, Abaco Strong will focus on expanding safe drinking water access in schools and preparing for the 2027 medical campaign. These initiatives address essential community needs while supporting better health education and quality of life for Abaco residents.
We are grateful to our supporters for making this work possible and helping build a healthier future for Abaco.
