This project will build a cinema space in the Shevchenkove community, Mykolaiv Oblast in order to support socialization and non-formal education. The cinema space will become a platform for 100 teenagers to spend time together to watch and discuss films. Such a project is critical for maintaining youth development in the region. Due to Russia's attack on Ukraine in 2022, children have been forced to attend online education, as many schools in this community have been damaged by shelling.
In the rural community of Shevchenkove, Mykolaiv Oblast, Ukraine, 3 out of 24 schools were completely destroyed and the rest damaged by Russian shelling between 2022 and 2024. 1,760 children do not attend school in-person because of the threat of shelling from Russia, but are forced to study online. This creates barriers to quality recreation and socialization. This project will help 100 children in the Vavylove village of the Shevchenkove community to socialize, receive non-formal education.
Building a cinema space involves purchasing equipment, such as a projector, laptop, screen, as well as upholstered furniture, and board games. Fifteen youth leaders will be involved in the management of the cinema space, where they will be in charge of collecting ideas and planning events for the space. The cinema will become a platform for socialization and unification for young people, non-formal education, communication, and leadership development.
The project socializes approximately 100 children in the village of Vavylove. This will allow them to receive non-formal education, quality leisure time, and participate in the development of their community in the future. "We would really like to have a cinema space based inside our village club. We could manage and organize its work. We would first watch a movie and then discuss it," says, 15 years girl, from Vavylove village.
