Child Sponsorship Report 2025

The Child Sponsorship Program (CSP) 2025 Impact

Introduction

Poverty and financial hardship remain the primary barriers to children's access to basic needs such as food, education, clean water, and healthcare. Despite progress in global education, millions of children are still out of school.

In response to these challenges, the HCI Child Sponsorship Program (CSP) supports vulnerable children in their education and livelihoods. The CSP aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4): Quality Education, aiming to ensure inclusive, equitable, and quality learning opportunities for every child.

Program Overview

The HCI Child Sponsorship Program provides comprehensive, life-changing support that addresses children’s educational, physical, emotional, and psychological needs. Through financial assistance, in-kind support, healthcare services, and psychosocial care, the program strengthens family resilience and creates a positive environment for children to thrive.

During the year 2025, the CSP program was implemented across the following countries:

  • Bangladesh
  • Rohingya - in Bangladesh
  • Pakistan
  • Turkey - for Uyghur children
  • Lebanon (Lebanese, Palestinian & Syrian refugees)
  • Syria
  • Yeman
  • Palestine, Gaza Strip
  • Somalia
  • Jordan
  • Egypt (Gazan children)
  • Kenya

New Program Reach in 2025

In response to growing humanitarian emergencies and increasing needs, HCI expanded the CSP in 2025 to Gaza (Palestine), Jordan, Kenya, and Egypt, focusing on orphans/ children living in highly vulnerable conditions.

Gaza, Palestine

Years of protracted conflict in Gaza have devastated communities and left thousands of children orphaned and highly vulnerable. These children face severe challenges, including acute food insecurity, lack of necessities, disruption of education, and profound psychological trauma resulting from violence and displacement.

In 2025, the HCI CSP provided life-saving humanitarian assistance to 3,308 children and their families/caregivers. Support included monthly food packages critical for survival during extreme shortages, as well as hygiene kits. Additionally, play-based mental health and psychosocial support activities helped children cope with trauma, restore hope, build resilience, and foster positive thinking.

Jordan

Jordan currently hosts approximately 2.4 million registered Palestine refugees. About 18 percent reside in ten official camps, including Baqa’a, Marka, Jabal el Hussein, Talbieh, Jerash, and Souf. Limited access to formal employment and essential services forces many refugees to rely on irregular work and humanitarian assistance. This dependence perpetuates poverty and social exclusion, leaving refugee communities highly vulnerable to economic shocks (UNRWA).

CSP supports displaced children and host community members in the Al Mafraq and Amman governorates, ensuring access to quality education within safe and supportive learning environments. Beyond reducing financial barriers to schooling, the program addresses psychological distress and improves access to essential healthcare services, helping children regain stability, confidence, and a sense of normalcy.

Kenya

Tana River County, particularly Madogo Ward, is among the most marginalized and underdeveloped regions in Kenya. Communities face recurrent droughts and seasonal flooding, which severely affect livelihoods.

Many children in this area are single or double orphans living with elderly caregivers who lack the financial capacity to meet basic needs. Consequently, children are at heightened risk of malnutrition, child labor, early marriage, gender-based violence, and school dropout.

The CSP supports vulnerable households through monthly cash transfers, reducing financial barriers to education and enabling families to meet essential needs such as food and school-related expenses. This support fosters a stable, protective, and nurturing environment for children’s growth and learning.

Egypt

The ongoing war in Gaza has triggered a large-scale humanitarian crisis, forcing tens of thousands of Palestinians to flee in search of safety. Many crossed into Egypt through the Rafah border, where they continue to face severe hardships in displacement.

According to WHO - Egypt (2024), over 100,000 Palestinians have entered Egypt, including 3,841 medical evacuees and 5,758 companions.

The CSP supports highly vulnerable displaced children in Cairo, Egypt, by providing critical humanitarian assistance essential for survival. The program also addresses psychological distress through recreational and entertainment activities, promoting emotional well-being, dignity, and hope during times of crisis.
