This project will create safety resources and support for women at risk - displaced women, rape and trauma victims, gender-based violence victims, and single women with children as well as build the capacity of educators teaching online safety for women.
More than 58% of Women at Risk in Nigeria experience and fear different forms of harassment and violence online. Law reforms like the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation(NDPR), Cyber Crimes Act (2015), and Data Protection Bill, which contain online privacy and protection laws, are yet to be fully implemented and updated to safeguard women within the digital spaces. This project will provide women at risk with the tools and skills needed to respond effectively to cybersexism incidents.
Through this project, we are creating safety resources and support for women at risk as well as building the capacity of educators teaching online safety for women. We will create lesson plans that cover themes of responsibility, respect, critical thinking and resilience. It will also follow the online experiences of women at risk who find themselves in difficult situations. These will help viewers especially women at risk to understand the consequences of making poor decisions online.
The project will educate 50 women at risk, creating a more safe and supportive environment that encourages women at risk 's active participation in digital spaces. To build the capacity of 15 educators teaching online safety for women at risk, who will in turn train other educators across Nigeria.
