Cradle to Grave: Providing Basic Needs For Living

Flames of Giving is proud and honored that you have chosen to partner with us to help those in our community who struggle everyday with challenges of living with safety, cleanliness, dignity and hope. 

Our flagship program wrapped up and we granted holiday wishes to those struggling whether they are people with disabilities; the homeless and destitute; the elderly frail and isolated; foster children; teens and adults dealing with mental illness and/or addiction; families struggling with hunger and financial challenges; single moms dealing with domestic violence; teens and young adults from under resourced neighborhoods and people with special needs.

Many of the gifts were basics of everyday living such as new clothing, hats, gloves, boots, winter clothing, blankets and baby diapers as well as adult diapers. Your generosity and compassion brings happiness and necessary resources to those in need. Thank you for your partnership, your generosity and making this world kinder, more compassionate and a better place to live.

Here are some of the "thank you" notes we received:

Nearly 1 in 3 families struggle to afford diapers. Diaper need is often a silent problem that affects many low-income families with babies. And all it takes is an unexpected emergency — a job loss, illness or car repair — and the effects on the family’s finances can be devastating.  

Additionally, there are no government safety net programs to address this need.  These families may have to ration diapers and change their babies less frequently, often leading to diaper rash and other health problems.

Also many child care centers require families to bring a supply of diapers; the inability to afford diapers can prevent mothers from working, thus perpetuating the cycle of poverty.

”Thank you so much for your generous donation, especially the large size diapers! This past year has been an especially difficult time for many of our Baby Basics families. Many of the parents work in industries hardest hit by the pandemic. In fact, over 2/3 of our participating families lost their jobs or worked fewer hours during the pandemic. Your generosity is especially appreciated during this difficult time!"

"Thanks to generous and thoughtful donors like you, our Baby Basics program provided diapers, wipes and formula to 170 babies last year. A true testament to the life changing impact of the program comes from one of our Baby Basics mothers: 'This program saved my baby’s life. I was overwhelmed with anxiety not knowing if I could support my baby because I am a single mom. The diapers and wipes save me money so I could buy food for us and keep a roof over our head. In life you need support. This program is the support I need.'
