Shalini is a 14-year-old girl living with a family of five in the tiny hutments in South Delhi. She barely looks 10 due to lack of proper food. The financial meltdown due to Covid19 has taken away the job of her father, the only breadwinner in the family.
Her tattered clothes reveal the acute poverty the family is going through. With the onset of winter, she had no option but to shiver in the biting cold.
During the Pandemic, the migrant labourers were left in dire straits with no means of livelihood to feed their families. They were hardly in a condition to afford woolens to protect themselves in winter. They had no one to look up to for any support.
During these very difficult times, Prajna Foundation stepped forward and took the initiative to bring them the much needed relief. The Foundation made concerted efforts of reaching out to Donors, Supporters and people in general and managed to distribute blankets, shawls and sweaters to around 1000 poor slum inhabitants.
With gradual opening of the prevailing lockdown, the need was felt to install Sanitizer dispensers at all our centres. The foundation also distributed safety kits containing soaps, hand sanitizers, sanitary pads and pre-cooked meals to 200 young girls and women early this year.
IMPACT:
The foundation’s intervention along with ongoing program to provide mid-day meals has been able to stave off the hunger related death and winter afflicted pains/disease to the children of 1000 families living around the centers.
We are immensely thankful to all our supporters and request them to continue their unstinted support.
Gratefully Yours,
