The number of families who are struggling to meet their basic needs such as housing, food, health services and education is increasing constantly. Through home visits and a diagnosis of social needs of CasaSito’s scholars and their families in two departments of Guatemala, our team identified poor conditions of the infrastructure of houses, the lack of a dignified and adequate places to sleep, clean cooking infrastructures and clean water supply.
When low-income families can meet their basic needs, their children are healthier and can reach a higher academic achievement. In addition, better and more sleep and a balanced diet affect the physical development, behavior and cognition.
Against this background, CasaSito initiated a program that aims at providing water tanks, ceramic water filters, improved cooking stoves and bedding to its most vulnerable families which will help them to meet basic living needs and enable the parents to promote their children’s academic and personal development.
