CORE Haiti Earthquake Response Spring 2022 Report

By Lauren Bentley | Donors Relations Manager

With your support, CORE continues to meet the needs of Haitians who have been impacted by the August 14, 2021 earthquake. In 2022, we’ve been focusing on getting several localities in the South the materials and kits needed for shelter. In March 2022, CORE procured 150 semi-durable shelter kits and delivered directly to the localities of Beaumont and Pestel for distribution. Additionally, CORE distributed 207 durable shelter kits in Pestel and 52 in Beaumont.  CORE also conducted trainings for carpenters with our staff engineers who installed 274 durable shelters in Beaumont and Pestel together. The installation of the durable shelters is ongoing with 11 planned for April 2022.

In addition to shelter, our cash for work (cfw) program remains an essential component in supporting Haitians through economic recovery and job creation. Over the past month, CORE community mobilizers have leaned into the cfw program to distribute hygiene, latrine, and durable shelter kits to beneficiaries in need. This past month, we worked with 55 young men and women who prepped and packaged shelter and hygiene kits, loaded trucks for delivery and assisted with distributing latrines and durable shelter items to beneficiaries.

Finally, in Q1 of this year, CORE has provided materials and paid trained carpenters to repair 321 latrines in an effort to scale our WASH efforts. This project gained momentum from the early activities of community debris removal, cash for work, and emergency shelter installation. To date, the total number of latrines repaired is 502.

Our Haiti earthquake recovery model is continuing to adapt to address evolving needs on the ground, with sincere thanks to GlobalGiving and all partners.
