G.S. Busogo I is a rural primary and secondary school serving over 2,400 students and staff. Due to the rapid increase in enrollment, the existing sanitation facilities have become inadequate, with many latrines in poor and unhygienic condition. This situation poses serious health risks, contributes to disease outbreaks, increases absenteeism, and undermines students’ dignity, particularly for girls.
To address this urgent challenge, the project aims to improve hygiene, health, and overall well-being by constructing 24 new ventilated improved pit latrines and renovating 20 existing ones. The new facilities will be gender-segregated, safe, and clean, ensuring privacy and dignity for all users. In addition, hygiene education will be promoted through student WASH clubs to encourage proper sanitation practices.
The project is currently in the fundraising phase on the GlobalGiving platform. Out of the total goal of $20,760, only a small amount has been raised, with $20,685 still remaining, supported by 2 donors and no monthly donors yet. This indicates that implementation activities have not yet begun and are dependent on mobilizing additional resources.
Despite the slow financial progress, the project remains active and ready for implementation once sufficient funds are secured. It aims to create a healthier school environment, reduce sanitation-related illnesses, and enhance school attendance and performance.
