How many bathrooms do you have within 100 feet of you at all times of the day? At your house, school, jobs, restaurants, etc? Do these bathrooms have a locking door? Do they have a flushing toilet? Are they ventilated?
Think about your answers to the questions above.
Now, imagine yourself living in a rural community of the Dominican Republic. Your family of six has a small one bedroom house on the mountain side. You don't have a latrine behind your home and you have to walk to your neighbors house when you need to go to the bathroom. Sometimes, you don't even walk to the neighbors house and instead you dig a little hole in the ground and do your business there.
At BLUE Missions, we believe that every human being on Earth has the right to proper sanitation and clean water. Through out the year, you have been donating to bring sanitation projects to the community of La Penda, Dominican Republic. In January, we successfully completed the construction of 18 ventilated improved pit latrines in the homes of families that needed it the most. These houses had no place to go to the bathroom. However, now thanks to YOU, they can walk to the bathroom right next to their homes.
I visited La Penda a month ago, when we sent our third group of volunteers to construct 17 more ventilated improved pit latrines through out the community. We won't stop until every family has one of these sanitation projects a few feet from their homes.
Below you will see some pictures of families standing next to the latrines we were able to construct thanks to your donation. Too often, we get caught up in life and forget to see how grateful we are that we have access to a bathroom and clean running water. Your donation and support for our projects motivate us every day at BLUE Missions to continue to fight for those who do not have acess to these basic human rights. Thank you for fighting with us.
