We have temporarily moved operations from the Serrania de San Lucas (black circle) to the Serrania de Abibe (white circle). We are supporting a student from the Universidad de Magdalena in Santa Marta, Colombia as he explores opportunities for collaboration with indigenous communities in Abibe. This is a rugged landscape that presents numerous - yet exciting - challenges for research.
In the coming months, we are eager to further highlight contributions by indigenous communities to conservation during a time of unprecedented threats to biodiversity. Indeed, it is doubtful that the implementation of the global conservation goals, such as the target for 30% protected area coverage by 2030, will be achievable unless there are substantial shifts to partnerships with indigenous communities.
