Building Digital Skills for Rural Girls

By Azeem Christopher | Project Leader

In today’s digital world, computer literacy plays an important role in education, employment, and personal development. Through its Scaling Computer Literacy for Rural Girls initiative, AWARD Pakistan is helping girls in Faisalabad develop the digital skills and confidence they need to access new learning and career opportunities.

The Learn & Earn Computer Class is currently providing practical computer training to 30 rural girls, helping them strengthen their digital knowledge and prepare for future academic and professional opportunities. The course combines classroom learning with hands-on activities, allowing participants to apply their knowledge through practical exercises.

During the training, participants are learning MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, internet basics, typing, and essential computer operations. These skills will help them complete academic tasks more effectively, access online information, communicate digitally, and prepare for future employment opportunities.

The girls are participating actively in classes and showing enthusiasm and dedication as they develop their abilities. With continued practice and guidance, they are gradually building the confidence to use technology independently and explore opportunities that may otherwise remain out of reach.

Through this initiative, AWARD Pakistan is working to bridge the digital divide and expand opportunities for rural girls. By equipping 30 participants with essential computer skills, the project is laying the foundation for greater educational access, improved employability, and a more empowered future for girls and their communities.
