Qi, a child from Xixia District, Yinchuan, when he was one year old, Qi was diagnosed with binocular concomitant strabismus/squints. At the same time, his father was sentenced to prison for drug abuse, his parents divorced, and Qi became the child of a single-parent family. Qi’s mom has no source of income after the divorce. She couldn't go to work as she needs take care of kids at home. She can only rely on relatives’ help & lending or occasionally fit in the seat of temping jobs to subsidize their daily necessities and the boy’s school expenses. Qi was discriminated by his classmates at school because of the tough life, family problem and the eye disease.
The Project has subsidized eye surgery at Ningxia Eye Hospital for this poor family. Dr. Ma Hongjuan, the Head of Paediatric Ophthalmology Department performed strabismus correction surgery for Qi on November 19, 2020. After the surgery, Dr. Ma Hongjuan told the mom that Qi would be able to study, live and play like other children from now on. Early in the morning, the sun shines into the ward, Qi’s big black and clear eyes sparkled. Qi and his mom's smile seemed to melt away all difficulties they have experienced.
