This June, four COCE board members had the opportunity to visit Sijowa village in Samia Sub-County, Busia County, Kenya. On this trip, COCE engaged with students and community members, visited the Kiwimbi Library and Museum in northern Busia County to learn more about how they became established, and met with a local Member of Parliament to discuss community priorities and partnerships.
At the end of our time in Sijowa Village, we celebrated our 20 years of operation in Kenya with the community. A local DJ and three acrobats performed for the celebration and those of us from the USA learned how to dance!
We left Sijowa energized and deeply encouraged by the work ahead. We are currently working on designing bookshelves and layout for the library along with determining basic operating policies and procedures. We continue to look for grant funding to support the generosity of donors like yourself.
