Build a Cooker for Pirates Youth Group, Mathare,KE

We THANK YOU again, for helping us raise and even surpass our goal of $22,997 towards the construction of a Community Cooker for Pirates Self Help Youth Group, Mathare, Kenya.

The idea of supporting a Cooker in Mlango Kubwa for the Pirates Youth Group arose when the group was being evaluated for a local hero award in waste management. Their work in waste management in this informal settlement, has brought them into the forefront of local groups trying to address the rubbish problems currently facing all of Nairobi.

We are still in Phase 3 out of 7 of our project implementation plan: Approvals. We have received approval to proceed with construction from the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) after an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) Report was done. However, we are awaiting approvals from the County Government of Nairobi, and then we can begin!

Our Objectives:

1. To install a Community Cooker in Mlango Kubwa, Nairobi, Kenya. Installation will include construction of the Cooker, sorting and drying racks for rubbish, and a hot and cold-water supply system.
2. To train the youth who will manage and cook using the Cooker on waste management and entrepreneurial skills in general and specifically on how to successfully manage a Community Cooker.
3. To supervise and monitor the use the Community Cooker for ten months after the initial implementation.

We know there are a lot of other ways you could have spent this money, but you believed in our cause, so you chose to invest it in our project. So don’t lose hope!
