From the bottom of our hearts, we THANK YOU again, for helping us raise and even surpass our goal of $22,997 towards the construction of a Community Cooker for Pirates Self Help Youth Group, Mathare, Kenya. It has been over a year and we have gone through great lengths in raising these funds, and we are extremely grateful to all our donors for your amazing and continued support. We would not have crossed the finish line without your help.
The idea of supporting a Cooker in Mlango Kubwa for the Pirates Youth Group arose when the group was being evaluated for a local hero award in waste management. Their work in waste management in this informal settlement, has brought them into the forefront of local groups trying to address the rubbish problems currently facing all of Nairobi.
We are currently in Phase 3 out of 7 of our project implementation plan. Phase 1 included site investigations to determine the design layout of the Cooker and recommend any site modifications. Phase 2 included carrying out waste management campaigns to ensure enough rubbish is available for the hours the Cooker will be operated. Being that the group is already involved in waste management, rubbish won’t be a problem. We also worked on their business plan as they will be operating the Community Cooker as a restaurant to generate an income and lead them to financial stability and independence, straying farther away from the life of crime. Currently in Phase 3, we are waiting on approvals from the County Government and National Environmental Management Authority for the installation of the Community Cooker then the procurement of construction materials can begin and then the construction.
We know there are a lot of other ways you could have spent this money, but you believed in our cause, so you chose to invest it in our project. Because of this investment, I want you to feel like part of our team. We're in this together. I want our success to be your success. Now that our project is fully funded, we will be sending you regular reports about our work. You'll know what your donation has helped fund and what accomplishments we have achieved.
From the Community Cooker Foundation team, thank you!
