THANK YOU
A very big thank you to all our donors who have helped us raise $15,119 towards the construction of a Community Cooker at Glad’s House Mombasa. It has been nine months and we have gone through great lengths in raising these funds, and we are extremely grateful to all our donors for your amazing and continued support. We would not have made it this far without your help.
Glad’s House delivers holistic support to the thousands of children and young people that live on the streets, in conflict with the law, live and work on dumpsite and live in the communities of Mombasa, Kenya. They have been working with these vulnerable children and young people since 2006. They work with the children and young people who are deemed ‘too challenging’ by the rest of society, those who everyone else has given up on. Without Glad’s House, the children and young people they support would have little option but to remain on the streets with all the dangers life on the streets brings. They ensure that children and young people should be able to grow up loved and in safety, should have the chance for an education, and should be supported to fulfil their potential.
These young people come from very poor backgrounds and some are orphaned. The lack of childcare and a stable family pushes them to drug abuse and crime. At Glad’s House these children are taken through a rehabilitation program and are taught business skills that help them get into independent living and become responsible citizens.
The Community Cooker will go a long way in occupying these young people with skills on waste management as well as business management. Having a Community Cooker will create employment for the youth through the collection of rubbish from households at a fee. They will also get employment as operators and cooks at the Community Cooker, and the profit generated from running the Cooker as a business will help in supporting Glad’s House to continue doing the wonderful work they do.
Together, we have already raised more than half the amount and we have only $10,858 to go to reach our target. We know that with your continued support we can raise this remaining amount. Our wish is that you continue supporting us so that together we can give the young people from Glad’s House Mombasa a hope and a future.
From the Community Cooker Foundation team, thank you!
