2018.07 Build a Cooker for Glad's House, Mombasa

By Mercy Wamaitha | Administrative Assistant

THANK YOU

A very big thank you to all our donors who have helped us raise $15,024 towards the construction of a Community Cooker at Glad’s House Mombasa. It’s been a wonderful three months journey of raising these funds and we are extremely grateful to all our supporters. We wouldn’t be have made it this far without your help.

Glad’s House Mombasa supports street children and young people who have been out of school for a considerable amount of time and engages them in enterprising activities. The Community Cooker will go a long way in occupying these young people with skills on waste management as well as business management.

These young people come from very poor backgrounds and some are orphaned. Lack of childcare and a stable family pushes them to drug abuse and crime. At Glad’s house these children are taken through a rehabilitation Program and are taught business skills that help them get into independent living and become responsible citizens.

Having a Community Cooker will create employment for the youth through the collection of rubbish from households at a fee. They will also get employment as operators and cooks at the Community Cooker and the profit generated from running the Cooker as a business will help in supporting Glad’s House to continue doing the wonderful work they do.

We have about $10,953 to reach our target and we know that with your continued support we can raise the remaining amount. We urge you to continue supporting us so that we can give the young people from Glad’s House Mombasa a hope and a future.

From the Community Cooker Foundation team, thank you!
