Granny Zhang was 91 years old and always succumbed to illnesses. Due to the diabetes, her legs were paralyzed. Diabetic foot ulcer occurred as well. Although she was conscious sometimes, she could not talk or maintain the basic living. Given by the nonlocal nature of granny’s hukou, she could neither apply for medical insurance nor wage; she could only rely on her daughter, who work to pay the medical bills. The daughter could only sleep for 5 to 6 hours every day. Feeding mother, giving pills, cleaning constituted the daily life of the daughter. 20 years passed, the daughter was exhausted and was about to collapse. Leling offered ‘Intermittent Elder Care’ to help the daughter tackle the problem of taking care of the mother, and at the same time, to provide household service, maintain the hygiene and lessen the burden of the family.
