Dear Friends!
On September 17, Hurricane Fiona passed through Puerto Rico devastating our island. Leaving losses of residences, floods, and disasters. Since the passes of Hurricane Maria in 2017, the poor communities of Puerto Rico are trying to overcome the losses caused by the disasters left by Hurricane Maria, earthquakes, pandemic, and economic crisis.
Thanks to all of you we have been able to work hard to help Puerto Rico. After Hurricane Fiona we have had the opportunity to make alliances with more than 50 organizations and community leaders around the island to bring emergency supplies, such as solar lamps, sanitizing kits, hygiene kits, water filters and different supplies to their communities. In the mountains of Puerto Rico there were communities without electricity, water and communications for a month. This worsens the medical conditions of many people.
Our “Los de a Pie” program continues to deliver food and hygiene kits to homeless people on the streets. We have noticed that in the face of the country's crisis this population continues to increase and the need is greater.
In the midst of all the hard work we have received the good news that we were chosen among thousands of organizations in the United States to be awarded the seal and distinction of being among the Great Nonprofits of United States. Thanks again to all of you!
The work is not over yet but we remain confident that we will be able to move forward thanks to you! There are new plans for the year 2023, and we are excited!
We wish each one of you health, peace and joy. May everything your hands touch prosper. We are so grateful for your support and trust.
Blessings!
Yani Ocasio
