By Dr. Thomas G. Hedberg | Executive Director, IMCRA
Surprisingly, one of the most difficult aspects of attempting to run this program lies in attracting committed financial partners. The need is great and widely recognized. It is on the lips of almost every politician. It is in the eyes of so many of the veterans we talk to. It is in the frustrations of the primary care providers they go to; be they clergymen, family, or physicians, who do not have the skills to cope with the problem.
The IMCRA program has been repeatedly acknowledged as an excellent and immediate solution to the issue of affording first recourse caregivers the skills, references and background they need to cope with the long-term psychosocial sequelae of extreme violence. The system is easily accessible and navigable. It can be used on any smartphone or computer terminal. It is as simple and powerful as common sense.
Yet, what we have been repeatedly encountering from some of our major potential support entities are talk and promises and little action. In hopes of attracting a larger scope of attention, IMCRA presented some of its findings on PTSD at the UN summit on refugees on September 19th. We are hopeful that the networking experience which has grown from that, as well as our recent uptick in alliance interactions with an admittedly differently-oriented but still veteran focused organization like Veterati will improve the situation.
The needs are simple. We have excellent and skilled faculty, but they must receive some kind of honorarium for their hours of effort. Our software developers work gladly, but they cannot work gratis indefinitely. Web hosting is web hosting and the bills must be paid.
Anything you can do to help us in this committed endeavour will be exceptionally appreciated. Thank you.
