The lockdown is over in Sri Lanka

Dear Supporters,

Last year has been very difficult in terms of COVID restrictions and reaching out to families with children with special needs because of the strict lockdown in Sri Lanka.

In September 2020, we successfully delivered Phase One of our Community Health Worker Empowerment Programme to Cerebral Palsy, Lanka, training 30 members of staff through our adapted online programme. This is a huge achievement in the current circumstances.

Our partner organisation CP Lanka have now successful translated the training resources "MAITS Manual - Caring for Children with NeuroDevelopmental Disabilities" in both Sinhala and Tamil to roll out the upskilling of the Community Health Workers and parents of children with Special Needs.

MAITS Trained therapists at CP Lanka, started the online training program for the Social Services in both Sinhala and Tamil in October 2021. The training was delivered to nearly 280 participants in both Sinhala and Tamil medium. It was a 3 weeks program on Childhood Disabilities. The participants work with the families of the children with special needs on social services support.

MAITS Trainers will be selecting few officers from the group of trained individuals for the dissemination of MAITS training package. This online training served to be a basic training for these individuals before our complete training on MAITS packages starts. We are aiming to start the full roll out in January 2022.

We would like to extend our thanks to all the contributors and supports. Your donations will help us reach 600 - 700 families with special needs children in Sri Lanka. They will receive the health care services they deserve in comfort of their homes!
