On Thursday, September 3, Liberia was declared Ebola-free. The last known Ebola case had tested negative forty-two days before, and it was deemed safe for Liberia to enter a nintey-day surveillance period.
The epidemic had been declared over once before, on May 9, only for new victims to fall ill. As a result, we at NFA felt we should wait a bit before closing this project. But now that almost 50 days have have passed, we feel the time is right.
We are so grateful to everyone who supported the work of our heroic nurse leaders. Thanks to you, communities throughout Liberia received lifesaving information and supplies.
Thank you all so much for joining us to fight this horrible epidemic.
