The cemetery community has endured the second Covid wave with the delta variant. The city at large has implemented many gathering and social restrictions to help citizens remain safe. As a result, many of our efforts as a staff have revolved around education about the disease and about vaccines, encouraging and helping community members to sign up and access it. This community of people, though faced with many challenges during this last year, are resilient and strong. They are constantly working to find other methods and means of supporting themselves and their families economically.
Recently, we were able to restart the Yellow Flower Collection, which is a community led business making journals and handcrafted bags and skirts. The teens are excited to begin journal-making, and many of the women are interested in learning how to sew. Through this work, we’ve seen the development of new skills, community building, and empowered women. We continue to be inspired by their strength and resourcefulness!
