Status Update On Our Road Safety Project.

By Michael Wanyama | Executive Director

This project is still facing major funding challenges both in terms of grants and individual donations.

This is partly because of the lack of proper equipment to enhance mechhanics training workshops and the unique approach we are taking that differs alot from what most road safety agencies and orgaisations are focused on. Most road safety grants for our region specify support for organisations that are into road safety advocacy and post crash care; we are literally some of the very few that look at vehicle mechanical conditions as a road safety factor.

It makes acknowledgement and support difficult but again we have to keep pushing because the gaps we aim to fill have a great positive impact on road safety in Uganda and Africa at large.

Our main take is on making vehicles safer through structured augmented automobile maintenance with focus on those involved in goods and public transportation as well as child transportation services.

The bright side of it is that we have fully gained more grip on partnership with the government of Uganda under the ministry of works and transport, and our initiative has been identified as a key stakeholder in formulating regulations around automobile repair garages.

Secondly we have gone ahead and won another international award in the World Smart City Awards competition in Barcelona, Spain - Novemver 2022. This has given us more visibility for our idea of tackling Africa's road crashes as well as reducing vehicular emissions. We are going to ace up our fundraising efforts come next year, and by then we wil be eligible to join the Global Alliance For Road Safety NGOs; another opportunity to reach supportive partners. We have also done some good networking with other organisations outside Uganda.

Our commitment to make African Roads Safer for people of all ages irrespective of their status and with focus on protecting the most vulnerable is still on; we believe with the right partnership an support, we shall save many lives and impact communities through our innovation.
