AURA WAS HAVING TROUBLE IN SCHOOL even though she is a dedicated student. She wasn’t able to read or see the blackboard, and she consistently misspelled words. At the end of every day, her eyes were red and irritated, which made doing homework very dififcult. All of these factors resulted in Aura failing fourth grade.
Aura’s Common Hope social worker learned about her trouble in school and encouraged her to visit the clinic. At her exam they uncovered that nothing drastic was wrong with Aura’s eyes...she just needed glasses.
Common Hope’s intervention and eye exam has made a night-and-day di erence for Aura. So much so that her grades improved dramatically. This year she is taking both fourth and fth grade classes in order to catch up and is excelling in every area. Aura’s mom, María, is proud of her daughter’s persistence and seeing her do well in school brings her so much joy. María’s mother wasn’t able to provide her with an education, so María wants to motivate Aura to continue studying hard. “Now that she has her
glasses she is able to do everything! I am so grateful,” said María.
