Dear Supporters,
Over the past year, our HIV Prevention and Education Initiative in Kilifi County has faced significant challenges due to the USAID funding freeze. This disruption has left vulnerable children and families without consistent access to lifesaving antiretroviral therapy (ARVs), testing kits, and preventive services. Kilifi’s HIV prevalence stands at 4.4%, with more than 22,600 people living with HIV, including 3,500 children. Each year, approximately 700 new infections occur—numbers that highlight the urgency of our work.
Despite limited resources, we have continued to mobilize communities through schoolbased education, peer support groups, and outreach programs. These efforts have helped reduce stigma and empower families to seek testing and treatment. One mother shared how peer education sessions gave her the courage to bring her child for testing, ensuring early treatment and a healthier future. Stories like hers remind us that even small steps can save lives.
Looking ahead, we aim to expand mobile clinic services, strengthen nutrition support for HIVpositive children, and scale up awareness campaigns. With full funding, we expect to achieve a 75% reduction in new infections, a 25% decrease in AIDSrelated mortality, and a 50% reduction in stigma. Your continued support is vital to making these goals a reality.
Thank you for standing with us. Together, we can ensure that children in Kilifi grow up with dignity, health, and hope.
Warm regards,
Nicholas O. Ondiek
