Coastal regions have been important in Tanzania,Mangrove plants has been important to combat coastal erosion, also acts as source of fishing areas. Project is focused on planting 20,000 Mangrove species, and restore 10 hectares, mangrove green land through planting and restoration of mangrove species in assistance with Pwani local people for coastal protection, mangrove livelihoods, biodiversity conservation and combating climate change.
Around 70 percentage mangrove forests have been destroyed since 1996 due to extensive human activities taking place. There has been a massive clear out of Mangroves in coastal regions leading to lo of losing its origin biodiversity results to climate change and loose of species of fish. Climate changes is now accelerating leading to environmental problems of the communities due to shortage and decrease of Mangroves forests, poverty due to reduced fishing activities for income generating.
The project will solve the problem through planting of 20,000 Mangrove species around Pwani region to ensure stable climate conditions to return original biodiversity, Increasing fishing production and reduce risk of coastal erosion.
The long terms impacts are; Planting of 20,000 Mangrove species, increasing income through improved fish production areas, reducing coastal erosion and creating stable environments for tourism activities.
