With thirty coaches actively engaged with their clients, CEDPA’s Coaching Program has been robust in the 3rd quarter. A key Coaching Program result is helping clients to build the capacity of her organization. We would like to share with you one story in Nigeria that truly exemplifies this outcome.
In her final coaching report, CEDPA coach Chief Imo barely had enough room on the form to record the plethora of accomplishments she and her client had achieved together over their 12-month coaching cycle. Twelve months prior, Chief Imo took on a new client despite the challenges and activities going on in her own personal and professional life. For Coach Imo, the opportunity to coach one of her Nigerian “sisters” is a unique and special opportunity and one she takes very seriously.
Beatrice, the client, shared what she wanted to achieve for her organization as her coaching objectives. Her organization seeks to build the capacity of illiterate, poor, rural women and empower them through technical and financial support, thereby enabling them to become self-sufficient and self-reliant.
When their coaching relationship began twelve months prior to the day Chief Imo sat down to complete the final coaching report, a mission and vision was all Beatrice’s organization had to its name. It did not have any funding, a Board, office space, or running programs.
Over the 12-month period with Chief Imo’s coaching, guidance and monitoring, Beatrice led the organization to form a Board of Directors, obtain leased office space, and implement a transparent and documented accounting system. It has also developed a 5-year strategic plan and created several successful economic development projects. Chief Imo helped Beatrice develop a proposal for funding, which led to the organization finally being awarded a grant to further its projects, including training of 100 women on food processing, hat and bead making, poultry farming and piggery management, and soap making.
Beatrice’s organization is well functioning after just one year of its inception. Together they made it happen!
