Responding in Yemen in 2023

Over 21 million people will require humanitarian assistance in 2023. Years of conflict have exacerbated coping mechanisms and halted development gains seen in the years preceeding the war. 81% of Yemenis now live below the poverty line and the availability of resources to support affected people is not increasing.

GlobalMedic is responding. Lifesaving aid is in high demand in Yemen, which is why GlobalMedic has sent both Family Emergency Kits and Emergency Food Kits to affected families. These forms of aid provide displaced Yemenis with lifesaving items.

Family Emergency Kits are a portable, easy-to-use water purification system. No matter the water purification system included, it provides families with clean drinking water in their own homes. Access to clean drinking water is disrupted during conflict as infrastructure is damaged and pollutants find their way into water sources increasing the risk of waterborne illness. Family Emergency Kits provide a simple solution to families, and one that can easily travel with them if they have to relocate. GlobalMedic includes basic hygiene items in these kits as well. These items promote good hygiene practices, decreasing the risk of communicable disease such as COVID-19.

Emergency Food Kits are made with the end consumer in mind, comprised of culturally appropriate pantry staples. Items such as lentils, chickpeas and rice are included in the kits distributed in Yemen. The number of individuals facing severe food insecurity in Yemen continues to grow, increasing the need for food aid. Pantry staples are nutrient dense and filling, making them a critical part of meals.

While the need is still high, GlobalMedic will continue responding. All donations towards this project go towards providing Family Emergency Kits and Emergency Food Kits to families in Yemen.
