The following is a postcard from Charissa Murphy, GlobalGiving's In-the-Field Representative in Southeast Asia, about her recent visit to Splash in Cambodia.
Running across the dirt-covered school courtyard, students in weathered uniforms race to the clean water fountain station. Some of the children carry jugs or bottles with them, while others chase more instant heat relief and hydration. Regardless of their size, they leap up in enthusiasm to turn the faucet knobs, feet hanging off the ground and their heads or water jugs completely submerged under the water steam. The excitement for water ripples throughout the campus and in the smiles of each of the children.
This clean water at the school serves thousands within the community. Splash installed both the water station as well as the filter system with a UV light that keeps the water clean and healthy, thus improving the health and quality of life for each family it touches.
Splash also showed me the system it installed at a local non-profit (NGO) that supports hundreds of people each day with livelihood skills and vocational training. This water not only feeds their thirst, but it also is used for cooking and baking, which then serves the entire set of students and teachers in the buildings within the NGO's programs.
If only these water systems could be installed everywhere, then we would certainly have a much healthier, happier world.
I want to thank Splash for allowing me to visit!
