Thanks for supporting our Waves of Hope - Clean Water Initiative!
During the first week of June, we hired a company from Managua called Abacus Drilling to come and drill the community well. With the help of the elders from the community, we chose a location that we thought would provide a bountiful source of water. The owner of the land generously agreed to donate a small portion of the property for the well and so we began drilling. The drilling lasted four days and very early on we hit a good amount of water but we decided to drill all the way down to 150 feet. Once completed, the drillers ran some quantity tests and determined that the well should provide up to 30 gl/minute continuously. This is a tremendous amount of water and should be plenty for our community.
The next step is the purchase and installation of the water tank and then soon after we will begin trenching and laying water pipe. The goal is for the project to be complete by no later than December 31, 2015. This project will provide water to over 200 people, 36 families and one elementary school.
About six weeks ago, our community also formed a CAPS - a local government regulated water potable water comiittee. Through this process a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Fiscal were elected. This committee has the responsibility of overseeing the management and maintenance of the water project.
All of the donations recevied to date from Global Giving were spent on the drilling of the well which cost $8827.40 USD.
We thank you for your generous donation to this project.
